I don't know if you even check this account anymore...but I just wanted to let you know, that years ago, YOU single-handedly led me to love the Malfoys. You showed their weaknesses but also their love for each other and their charming amounts of fail and snootiness and the ways in which they were awesome and any time I think about how they are some of my favorite characters, I have to mentally attribute that fact to you. So, yeah. Thanks for helping me see more about these characters than is right on the surface.
Well, someone pointed out at one point that one of the things that make the Potterverse so strong is that there isn't a single character in the series about whom you could not write a full and interesting story of their own. Her characters have layers and complexity, even those you barely see. I don't think there's anyone in the series that I wouldn't read a book about if given the option. And yeah, the Malfoys are so much more multi-faceted than they could have been. (Which many fic writers have gleefully jumped all over. Once in a while I'll see the family portrayed as cruel, unloving, indisputably evil people and I think, did you even read the books?)
^^THIS. And I tell people, think about real life, how many inherently good or bad people do you know? Everyone that is 'good' has done something bad, and everyone 'bad' has done something good (well except maybe voldy and bellabitch, they were just crazy).
But some people are so short-sighted that they only see what they want to see and then make blanket judgements and grrrr it irks me and like you said, did they even read the books??
This is also another reason why I can't read all fanfic because some is so unrealistic. Either people are bad cruel evil total bastards or they take someone and turn them into a docile bunny rabbit. There is no medium.
Yeah, I don't like fic that makes them perfect either...but I feel that way about all characters. You can focus on certain personality aspects and define the character more by their bad or goodness, but you have to take established positive OR negative aspects of their personalities into account. I mean, if there's some fic where Draco was never REALLY bad...just misunderstood and sad! ...it ignores the fact that, due to his upbringing, he's a privileged, bratty, bully for a lot of the books, and really needs a good smack. I always really appreciate it when people can understand character complexity in fic writing. Or heck, professional writing, for that matter. And, in the 'only bad and never good' category...I think Umbridge gets at LEAST a participation award. She's made of evil and awful.
Draco needed his arse kicked but really in the end, he was nothing but a scared little boy. He reminds me of a ton of people in real life. Minus the whole murder thing. Oh damn did I forget the pig in pink? She was awful.
Yes, exactly. He was raised to be an entitled ass, so he acted like one. And he's a teenager. Are we going to even try to pretend that Harry isn't an utter tool in book 5? I think, given the right input and a few years to grow up, he could totally be a decent human being. Ugh Umbridge.

Amazing. I don't know why but I have a serious urge to punch Voldemort. Like....right now. I absolutely LOVE your Malfoy arts they are amazing you give us a more honnest vision of them, because I don't think anybody is totally black or white, there are only shades of grey in between, and I find it amazing that you always choose to represent them as a family, in which there is love, fear and anger. Many people think that this family is broken whith no love inside it, but it is quite evident in the book that they love each other. Lucius and Narcissa are in love, despite all they go through, and they definitely love their son.
Soooo, thanks for breaking all the cliches about theml and sorry for my english mistakes!
